What do we mean by a regenerative economy?
By regenerative economy we mean an economy designed to restore and strengthen the living systems we depend on — people, communities, soils, water, ecosystems, and climate — rather than extracting from them until they break down. It is an economy where value circulates, wealth is shared more fairly, and human activity helps Life thrive. This builds on ideas such as the 8 Principles of a Regenerative Economy, as outlined by the Capital Institute.
How does PLANET help catalyse the collaborative, regenerative economy?
The Open Co-op's theory of change is that regeneration needs better coordination, trust, and flows of resources at scale. We are building a member-owned co-operating system, as a decentralised trust network, that helps people, communities, and organisations find each other, build verifiable trust relationships, collaborate, trade, fund projects, and redirect money, skills, and effort into work that supports Life. PLANET does not regenerate ecosystems directly — it helps people coordinate to create positive change faster, together.
